David Harbour has revealed the moment he fell in love with Lily Allen after he was ‘brutally honest about everything’ during their third date.

The Stranger Things actor married the Smile singer after they met on celebrity dating app Raya, and it didn’t take long for him to feel the spark as he realised he was falling for her.

Speaking to GQ Hype, he quipped: ‘She claims to have fallen in love at first sight with me — I mean, who wouldn’t? I remember the exact moment. It was our third date.

‘I was just in this phase, where I was like, I’m just going to be brutally honest about everything, because why lie? And I told her something about my life, about my beliefs…

‘It would take a really extraordinary person to be accepting of the things that I said. And I remember thinking: Wow, that’s somebody I want to be around.’

The 47-year-old actor didn’t reveal what he told her on that date, but he did reference their early relationship when they were in different countries, messaging back and forth.

He added: ‘I was in London alone, doing Black Widow, on this app, going on dates and stuff.

‘And yeah, I started texting with her, she was in Italy at the time — we got together, went on a date at the Wolseley, and it was, you know, she’s f**king unbelievable.’

The couple got married in a low-key ceremony in Las Vegas back in 2020 after they started dating a year earlier.

David recently opened up on the ‘special relationship’ he shares with her daughters Ethel, 10, and Marnie, nine, from her relationship with ex-husband Sam Cooper.

‘I’ve learned a lot about myself. You really have to show up for other human beings in a truly selfless way,’ he told The Times. ‘I was, like, “Whoa, this is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to deal with.”

‘The relationship I have with them now is really, really special. But, you know, it takes time and effort.’
