David Harbour doesn’t think Stranger Things fans will be disappointed once season five brings the hit Netflix show to an end.
The 47-year-old actor plays former chief of police Jim Hopper in the hugely popular sci-fi series, and he thinks the upcoming final season will be followed by plenty of spin-offs.
‘I think as soon as the show ends, or maybe six months before it ends, you’ll be hearing about whatever spin-offs they have planned,’ he told GQ Hype. ‘At this point, I think Hopper is a character that can exist independent of me.
‘If they wanna go back in time, forward in time… I’d love to see another actor play Hopper, and see what they can bring to it.’
Hopper is a fascinating character with plenty to explore, whether it ends up being a prequel focused on his life before he met El, or a sequel set after whatever occurs in season five.
David even has an actor in mind, and he suggested Euphoria star Jacob Elordi – best known for his role as Nate Jacobs in the HBO show – would be a good fit for the part.

He quipped: ‘He could pull off being as handsome as I was at 20.’
Any spin-offs are a while off with fans still reeling from the events at the end of season four – the penultimate series – with Hawkins torn apart and doused in fire after El’s mind battle with Vecna.

Opening up on what he described as an ‘Empire Strikes Back cliffhanger’, David admitted he has no idea where the next season will go.
He laughed: ‘There’s like, huge rift earthquakes going through all of Indiana, one would assume, so I don’t know what the f**k is gonna happen in season five now.’
When it comes to the upcoming season, it seems fans will have to wait a little while for any major use, with the Duffer Brothers’ scripts still not finished.
However, David teased: ‘I think we’ll [shoot] next year. They’re finishing writing it this year, and they need to prep and stuff, so hopefully it’ll be this year. But I think that’s the plan. So it’d probably come out mid-2024, based on our track record.’
