With no other new entries to get in the way, EA’s new Formula One game has taken pole position in the latest UK top 10.

This continues to be one of the worst summers ever for major new video game releases but the yearly launch of the latest F1 game has been at least one highlight, in terms of both sales and critical reception.

The new game had no trouble debuting at number one, with 71% of sales going to the PlayStation versions. Although, as a general rule, Xbox owners tend to buy games digitally more than their PlayStation counterparts.

There were no other new entries in the top 40, with the release of Monster Hunter Rise expansion Sunbreak failing to have any significant impact on the parent game’s sales – even though there is a retail bundle as well.
