Metallica is the latest musical act to enjoy a reignited interest following track Master of Puppets’ inclusion in the Stranger Things season four finale.

After Kate Bush rocketed up the charts with 1985 single Running Up That Hill in June, eventually hitting the top spot in the UK 37 years after its initial release, it looks like Metallica is now getting some of that fan attention.

Sadie Sink’s character Max Mayfield used Bush’s song as a way to ground herself in the real world and happy memories when she was facing danger from this season’s big bad Vecna.

Now, Eddie Munson’s epic guitar solo moment is capturing fans’ imagination.

The Hellfire Club leader and high school outcast, played by Joseph Quinn, teamed up with series regular and new pal Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) to help distract the Upside Down’s bats (demobats?) away from the Creel home so that Steve (Joe Keery), Nancy (Natalia Dyer) and Robin (Maya Hawke) could infiltrate Vecna’s lair with the hopes of killing him.

Standing on top of his trailer with his electric guitar, the student plugs in an amp and breaks into a blistering rendition of the titular track to Metallica’s first major album in 1986, with his riff being joined by the full track in the background.

Quickly dubbed one of the best scenes of the season, heavy metal fans were delighted to see the song get its due in among other classic 80s tunes.

Now it’s climbing the charts, just days after the season four volume two drop of Stranger Things, which includes the scene.

Master of Puppets initially charted at 29 on the US Billboard 200, while the album reached 41 on the UK Offical Charts.

The song is now moving up Spotify’s Top 50 Global playlist and has reached number 26.

As of Tuesday, it’s also at 15 on Spotify’s Top 50 in the UK and higher at number 12 on the US version.

Running Up That Hill, coincidentally, remains at the top of all of those charts, and Bush is now estimated to have made $2.3million (£1.9m) in streaming royalties thanks to its renewed popularity.

Over the weekend, Metallica’s bassist Robert Trujillo revealed on social media that his son Tye Trujilo contributed ‘additional guitar tracks’, as per the episode’s credits, as he shared how ‘proud’ he was.

For the scene, actor Quinn confirmed that heavy metal guitarist Aidan Fisher acted as his body double for the scene, which was made more poignant for the character’s eventual sacrificing of himself as a distraction in order to save his friends.

In the aftermath of the episode’s airing, the show’s writers revealed that the actor had improvised Eddie’s poignant ‘I love you’ to Dustin, which hit us all in the feels intensely.
