WWE superstar Gigi Dolin felt ‘terrified and heartbroken’ as she witnessed the ‘panic’ and confusion at the Lake Eola Fourth of July event.
The 25-year-old wrestler – who is one half of the NXT Tag Team Champions alongside Toxic Attraction teammate Jacy Jayne – attended the Fireworks at the Fountain event with her younger brother.
However, hundreds of people were seen fleeing the area, with the Orlando Police Department noting that ‘a noise during the fireworks show’ may have left some spectators confused.
Gigi tweeted: ‘Took my little brother to Lake Eola for fireworks tonight only to be terrified and heartbroken by panic and fleeing.
‘This is not freedom. My heart goes out to everyone involved in the traumatic events today.’
The Fourth of July confusion comes after a number of mass shootings in the United States, while six people died in a shooting at Highland Park – a suburb of Chicago, Illinois – on Monday night.
It’s said a number of people fled during the Lake Eola event, but the Orlando Police Department tweeted a statement reassuring the public that there was ‘no evidence of a shooting in the area’.
They said: ‘To our community members now in Downtown Orlando, please know that there is NO evidence of a shooting in the area. Our officers are now working to secure the area. There is NO public safety hazard at this time.’
In a second tweet, the authorities added: ‘At this time, it appears that a noise during the fireworks show confused some spectators, causing the reaction. No serious injuries have been reported. Only minor injuries suffered by some spectators who fell during the commotion.’
Fans responded to Gigi’s post with messages of support after the scary experience.
‘Please be safe out there,’ urged one follower, while another added: ‘Jesus, I’m glad you’re both safe’.
A different fan tweeted: ‘Hope everything’s okay gigi with ya’ll my heart goes out y’all (sic)’
