** Major spoilers ahead for Stranger Things season four **
A new theory put forward by a Stranger Things fan could mean one of the most devastating moments from the fourth series may not be all it seems.
The season four finale saw the Hawkins kids team up once again to enter the Upside Down and defeat terrifying villain Vecna, though the battle wasn’t without its casualties.
Viewers were heartbroken by the death of new character Eddie Munson (Joseph Quinn), who became a firm fan-favourite despite just being introduced at the beginning of the new series.
Eddie died a hero’s death, sacrificing himself to try and fight off hundreds of vicious bat-like creatures (after an electrifying guitar solo to Metallica’s Master of Puppets).
But if a new fan theory is to be believed, Eddie’s death may not be as permanent as we were led to believe – and he could return as a villain.

The theory making its way across social media refers to an iconic Dungeons & Dragons character and suggests Eddie could in fact become that character to defeat Vecna.
As any Stranger Things fan will know, the series revolves hugely around the popular roleplaying game, with everything from Demigorgons to Vecna being taken directly from the game.
The theory suggests that Eddie will return as Vampire villain Kas, another D&D creature, thanks to him being bitten multiple times by the bats.
It states: ‘Eddie is not dead. The Duffer Brothers have said that you cannot die from the bite of a bat. (Yes, you can eventually bleed out, but the bite alone, will not kill you.
‘I have this theory that Eddie will become Kas, the vampire…. the right hand man to Vecna, Kas eventually turns on Vecna and defeats him.’

It’s not just Eddie’s ‘death’ from vampire bats that forms the basis of the theory, but also the D&D character’s unique – and familiar – weapon.
In the show, Eddie fashions a spiked shield out of a trash can and nails, and creates a sword from a branch and a dagger; Kas, meanwhile, also carries a spiked shield and a sword.
‘I think that Eddie may still be alive and that he will come back as the vampire, Kas,’ the fan penned.
They added they had been ‘in a D&D spiral’ for days figuring out the theory.

Other viewers have responded positively to the idea, with one person writing on Reddit they thought the theory was correct, adding: ‘I don’t think Eddie’s arc is finished.’
Another joked: ‘I don’t care if a demodog farts smelling salts in eddies general direction, and it brings him back to life. I’ll take it!’
‘That’s pretty interesting,’ one person write, but added: ‘I still think he bled out.’
Viewers were genuinely devastated by Eddie’s apparent death, with thousands signing a petition asking the series creators to bring him back.

While it may seem like a lost cause, it’s not the first time the Duffer Brothers teased a death before bringing a character back, revealing Hopper had in fact been kidnapped by Russians and had not actually been evaporated.
The person who created the petition, who’s going by the name Maddy, wrote in summary: ‘This is a petition I have started to bring back fan favourite Eddie Munson.
‘The Duffer Brothers have unfairly killed him off and many other fans and I think he deserves to be brought back and not just as a flashback, please sign this petition to spread awareness.’
