Bridgerton has proven a huge hit for Netflix and it’s become so big it’s even influencing Julia Quinn’s books.
The author – whose novels have been adapted for the beloved show – has taken inspiration from the series itself and is working with Shonda Rhimes on a Queen Charlotte prequel on top of the upcoming spin-off.
The prequel will be focused on the character – who doesn’t feature in the nbook series but is played by Golda Rosheuvel in the main show – and her ‘rise to prominence and power’, telling the tale of how her marriage to King George ‘sparked both a great love story and a societal shift’.
While Netflix is working on the spin-off show and expanding the on-screen world, Quinn and Rhimes are teaming up on a novelisation of the series.
The author said in a statement: ‘Taking Bridgerton from book to screen was fascinating for me to watch, and it’s such an exciting challenge for me to take it in the other direction, this time crafting Shonda’s brilliant vision into a novel.
‘I’m especially thrilled to have the opportunity to write about Queen Charlotte, who was not in the original novels.

‘Her character —and Golda Rosheuvel’s brilliant portrayal of her— was a tour de force, and I think readers will love getting a chance to know her more deeply.’
Meanwhile, Rhimes described the character as so ‘moving’ to craft on screen, and she’s looking forward to introducing more of Queen Charlotte to readers and streamers alike.
She added: ‘Queen Charlotte has been such a moving character to write and now having the opportunity to work with Julia to adapt this story into a book is such an exciting opportunity.

‘I can’t wait for fans of this universe to read the story of a character that has resonated so deeply with our audience.’
There is currently no title or release date set yet, but publisher WilliamMorrow/Avon confirmed ‘the book will be timed to the release of the series on Netflix’.
As well as the third main Bridgerton series, Rhimes will be behind the spin-off, which will see Rosheuvel reprising her role alongside the likes of Ruth Gemmell (Lady Violet Bridgerton) and Adjoa Andoh (Lady Agatha Danbury).
Bridgerton is available to stream on Netflix.
