Charlie Cox is set to reprise his role as Daredevil in the upcoming Marvel series Echo.

Cox, 39, portrayed the superhero, whose real name is Matt Murdock, in the acclaimed Netflix series Daredevil between 2015 and 2018.

He then made a brief appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021, and now looks to be returning to the role full-time.

Also slated to join the new series is actor Vincent D’Onofrio, 63, who appeared opposite Cox as villain Wilson ‘Kingpin’ Fisk in the original TV series.

That news comes as little surprise to those in the Marvel world, after D’Onofrio had already reprised his role for the 2021 series Hawkeye.

Daredevil was unexpectedly cancelled in November 2018 after three successful seasons, and in 2022 its episodes moved from Netflix to Disney+.

And according to a report in Deadline, Disney has brought Cox back to the role after four years away from the small screen.

And speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, D’Onofrio revealed his excitement at being told he would be working alongside Cox once more.

‘As soon as Kevin [Feige] revealed the fact that Charlie was going to participate, Charlie called me immediately and we had a huge conversation about it’.

He added: ‘When they showed the phone shot of Kingpin in episode [six] of Hawkeye, I immediately called Charlie and we had another two-hour conversation’.

The upcoming series, is set to air in 2023, will also star Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, and is set to be a spin-off from his own series.

Echo will follow Maya ‘Echo’ Lopez as the titular superhero, portrayed by Alaqua Cox, 25, as she returns to her hometown and faces her past.

Development of the spin-off series began in March 2021 and the actress, who also appeared in Hawkeye, was soon confirmed to be starring as the lead.

At the end of Hawkeye, Maya fired a gun at Kingpin during an off-screen altercation, and viewers were left wondering whether the villain had survived.

Given the news emerging this week about D’Onofrio returning to the role, it appears to be the case that he did, in fact, survive the shot.

As for Daredevil, he was last seen using his daytime skills as an attorney to get Peter Parker out of a sticky spot in No Way Home.

You can watch Daredevil and Hawkeye on Disney+ now.
