Love Island’s Tasha Ghouri’s family beg trolls to stop mocking her ‘superpower’ cochlear implant -Kim Novak-Entertainment – Metro

Tasha Ghouri’s family have begged trolls not to target the Love Island star’s cochlear implant, which she calls her ‘superpower’. 

The model, 23, is Love Island’s first ever deaf contestant and has a cochlear implant to help her hear. 

A cochlear implant is a small electronic device that stimulates the cochlear nerve, which is used for hearing. 

Part of the implant is external and sits behind the ear to pick up sounds with a microphone, which are processed and transmitted to the internal part of the implant. 

Tasha was born with sensory loss, due to the small hairs in the cochlear being damaged or missing. 

She refers to the implant as her ‘superpower’, however some fans of Love Island have made cruel comments about the device.

Tasha has faced ableist abuse online with trolls wanting to interfere with the device and mocking her voice. 

Her family, who are looking after her social media accounts, have asked that people be kind to her and not target her disability with their abuse. 

Sharing a photo of Tasha taken before she entered the villa, they wrote: ‘Hey Everyone! We thank everyone for the love and support for our gal Tasha as we are behind her 110%.

‘We understand everybody has opinions both negative and positive but please could we avoid making fun of her superpower – let’s lead with love always!’

Fans also hit back after cruel comments about her raising her voice in a chat with Andrew Le Page following Casa Amor’s dramatic recoupling. 

They tweeted: ‘i really need some of you p**ks to realise that you can dislike tasha for whatever reason without being ableist and mocking her voice or making jokes about breaking her cochlear implant. you’re f**king disgusting if you’re partaking in that.’

Another added: ‘“Tasha has a cochlear implant and thinks she can now raise her voice as loud as she wants.” This might shock some of you, but deaf people can get angry too. They can raise their voice as well.’

Others posted: ‘Honestly I’m not even a fan of Tasha but the amount of tweets about her voice. Did you not see she wears a cochlear implant. She is deaf & cannot help the way she speaks. Ignorant lot.’

Love Island airs weeknights from 9pm on ITV2.
