Johnny Depp is making his feature film return in upcoming movie La Favorite – and it will also stream on Netflix.

The Pirates of the Caribbean actor will play King Louis XV in the period piece, which is being directed by Maiwenn Le Besco and marks Depp’s first role after winning his defamation trial with ex-wife Amber Heard..

As reported by Bloomberg, Netflix has acquired the streaming rights to the movie in France, and it will drop on the platform 15 months after it hits the big screen in French cinemas in 2023.

It’s said the company doesn’t have the rights for the fiom outside France.

Depp will be acting in French for the first time in his career, and the role will be his first in a film since Minamata in 2020.

Filming is set to get underway this summer over three months on locations including the Vesailles castle.

Depp and Heard both appeared in court for the trial, which lasted for six weeks, before the verdict was reached last month.

The Aquaman actress, 36, was sued by ex-husband over an op-ed she wrote for the Washington Post in 2018, in which she discussed her experiences with domestic abuse without naming him.

After the bombshell six-week court hearing, a jury found in favour of Depp, awarding him $10million of the $50million he sought, while Heard won one count of her $100million countersuit, and was given damages of $2million.

It was recently reported he could make a shock return to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in a deal worth $301million.

A source told Australian outlet PopTopic that Disney were ‘very interested in patching up their relationship’ with Depp.

However, his spokesperson told Metro.co.uk that there is nothing in the claims, while there are reports Margot Robbie could replace him in the franchise.
