From Selling Sunset to Tidying Up with Marie Kondo, Netflix has always provided the property porn and interior design tips that fans are desperate for, but, when sex and interior design combine, the raunchiest home makeover programme is created.

How to Build a Sex Room is the wild new Netflix series which serves like a cocktail of Changing Rooms mixed with Fifty Shades of Grey, following couples as they transform their homes into erotic havens.

Luxury interior designer Melanie Rose helps people across America transform their ordinary homes into spaces with a little more spice, and it’s pretty epic.

The stylish spaces let couples live out their wildest fantasies, whether they include whips, poles, or everything else in between.

What is How To Build A Sex Room?

During How To Build A Sex Room, Melanie meets a variety of American couples, singletons and polyamorous families and transforms their homes into spaces where they can live out their wildest fantasies.

In each episode, Melanie interviews the contestants looking to spice up their boudoir into a luxury adult toy-room, and after interviewing them and finding out their turn-ons and turn-offs, she designs the sexy space and reveals it to the couple.

‘When people hear the words “sex room”, they concentrate on the word “sex”, and that connotes “dirty, disgusting,”‘ Melanie explains in the trailer.

‘But when I design them, they can be beautiful, and they are places where couples can explore their deepest fantasies.’

One transformation involves a bath-tub surrounded by candles, while another features a red X-cross with ankle and wrist cuffs.

Lucious fabrics and dark colours feature throughout, as one room hosts a pole in the middle and another homes a wall of whips.

In one episode, a polyamorous family of seven have their dream sex dungeon created – complete with a drainage space for golden showers.

Who hosts the show?

Melanie Rose, who was born and raised in London but relocated to LA, is the host of How To Build A Sex Room.

According to her website, ‘Melanie spent over a decade as a successful actress appearing in many West End Shows and on television,’ and now is a popular interior designer.

‘Alongside traditional design and renovations, she also specializes in creating “sacred spaces:” rooms, suites and areas dedicated to the sensual and erotic.’
