Thor: Love and Thunder viewers are issuing a trigger warning to fans yet to see the latest Marvel blockbuster.

The movie – the sequel to 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok – stars Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson, while Natalie Portman returns to the franchise as Dr. Jane Foster for the first time since 2014’s Thor: The Dark World.

Portman’s alter ego has a bigger role in the latest film and becomes Mighty Thor, but another major plot point has left some fans upset.

During the movie, Jane is revealed to be battling stage four cancer and one seen shows her undergoing chemotherapy treatment.

Now, people who have already seen the film since it launched on Thursday (July 7) are letting their social media followers know about the scenes in case they are triggering for those who have either gone through treatment themselves, or have known someone who has.

One viewer tweeted: ‘If you’re planning to see Thor: Love and Thunder and are sensitive to cancer/cancer treatment, it is an extremely prevalent theme and plot driver in the movie… Prepare yourself and take care of yourself if you need to.’

‘If you have medical or cancer triggers, I’d do some light googling on the plot before deciding to see it or not,’ advised another viewer, while a different person added: ‘No spoilers, but Thor: Love and Thunder SHOULD have had a trigger warning for graphic depiction of cancer and the fact that we didn’t know going in is atrocious.’

A different fan noted while the storyline features in the comics and it’s been mentioned in publicly for the movie, ‘the cancer scenes still hit hard’ as they urged people to be prepared.

Others heaped praise on the film’s depiction of cancer and for dealing with it so sensitively.

One fan wrote: ‘Jane Foster’s storyline had insane emotional resonance for me. Both my mother & a close friend battled cancer a couple years ago. Thor’s desire to protect Jane & Jane’s struggle to keep fighting really hit home. I think we all needed to hear a story like this.’

And another said: ‘Why is everyone hating Thor love and thunder? It’s honestly such a good movie. I love the topic of Jane Foster fighting cancer as well it’s so heart wrenching.’
