Pub-goers still want to sit at his table. Table 32, if you’re wondering.

Harrison Ford surely has no concerns over the mark he’s left on Hollywood, but proof of the new octogenarian’s enduring legacy across the globe can be found at a pub in the small town of North Shields on England’s northeast coast.

The locally-renowned Fish Quay made headlines in June last year when Harrison, on a break from filming the latest Indiana Jones, popped into The Ship’s Cat for lunch. More than 12 months later, his pit-stop is still bringing in customers.

‘We still get people coming asking about it and asking where he was sitting,’ says manager Connor Graham. ‘They ask if they can sit at his table – table 32.’

Connor, who has managed the restaurant since it opened three years ago, was also on duty the day Indiana Jones stopped by.

‘He just rocked up,’ says Connor, who wasn’t contacted by Harrison’s ‘people’ beforehand. ‘It was just a random visit while he was out cycling on a break from filming.

‘He was just a normal guy, really down to Earth and just kept himself to himself – until somebody noticed who he was!

‘Then it went a bit mental.

‘Everyone was just a little bit shell shocked really, a bit like “oh my god, what’s he doing in North Shields?”.’

Harrison may have been far, far away from his usual haunts, but to mark his visit Connor also created a seasonal cocktail in honour of the Star Wars actor.

‘It was called The Solo [after Harrison’s character Han Solo],’ he says. ‘It’s a mix of vodka, Kahlua and Baileys.

’Whether The Solo pairs well with Harrison’s choice of Normandy-style mussels and sea bass can’t be verified because, like all good restaurants, The Ship’s Cat has updated its menu for the season.

But while his cocktail may no longer be around, the legend of Harrison’s visit to a small fishing village on the chilly northeast coast will live long in the memory.
