Love Island fans have a theory that Gemma Owen remained silent over her ex-boyfriend Jacques O’Neill’s exit from the villa because she’s seen his behaviour before.

Jacques cried as he quit the ITV2 dating show on Tuesday night after clashing with former contestant Adam Collard in heated scenes.

International dressage rider Gemma, 19, seemed pretty quiet as she watched Jacques leave the reality show, while her partner Luca Bish said if it wasn’t for his blossoming romance he’d have quit with him.

Viewers shared their theories on why they think Michael Owen’s daughter may have kept schtum regarding her ex’s decision to leave his partner Paige Thorne behind and leave the show.

Posting their ideas on Twitter, one wrote: ‘Gemma must be thinking this is why I broke up with Jacques in her head but she kept it quiet from Paige all this time.’

‘The fact Gemma didn’t react tells me she has seen this side of Jacques before,’ another penned.

A third said: ‘Gemma’s expression was so cold when Jacques was leaving, it’s clear she’s seen this before.’

Gemma and Jacques had dated prior to his arrival in the Love Island villa.

She had revealed she and Jacques broke up a year and a half ago, and were in a relationship for eight months before their split, meaning she would have been around 16 when they got together while he was 20.

Speaking ahead of his entrance, Jacques said: ‘I split up with my ex and then I was seeing someone else.

‘I was concentrating so much on my rugby and then I had that injury. I think it needs to be the right person, at the right time.’

At the end of Tuesday night’s show, Jacques said he needed to ‘get back to himself’ as he revealed he was leaving the Love Island villa.

To announce the news to his fellow islanders, he gathered everyone around the firepit and explained: ‘I just feel like lately, I just can’t be myself.

‘I’m trying my best but I’m not a fake person and I’m not going to start faking things and act like I’m okay when things inside aren’t actually okay.

‘For me and Paige to work I need to be at my best and if that means removing myself from the situation and waiting for Paige when she gets out then that I’m going to do.’

Love Island airs tonight at 9pm on ITV2.
