Only Murders in the Building star Steve Martin didn’t understand how him and co-star Martin Short were nominated for an Emmy while Selena Gomez’s performance was overlooked.

The legendary comedians and the Hands To Myself hitmaker lead the Hulu mystery-comedy series as an unlikely group of friends and true crime aficionados who come together to create a podcast investigating a suspicious death in their Upper West Side apartment,

The show earned an impressive 17 nominations for the 2022 Emmy Awards, with Steve and Martin landing acting nods for their role in the programme, but despite being one of the main stars, Selena was left out of the list.

Although leading man Steve was over the moon over the show’s recognition, he expressed his disappointment over Selena’s snub.

‘We’re very happy we got a lot of nominations. We’re a little dismayed that Selena didn’t get nominated because she’s so crucial to the trio, to the show,’ he said.

However, it’s not all doom and gloom for the Bad Liar singer, 29, as she was ‘nominated as executive producer on the show.’

Steve revealed to New York Times that the Only Murders family were ‘happy’ for Selena and hailed her as ‘a big asset.’

Among their plethora of gongs, Succession scored nominations for lead actor Brian Cox, as well as supporting actors Jeremy Strong, Nicholas Braun, Kieran Culkin and Matthew Macfadyen, breaking the record for most acting nominations.

Squid Game has become the first non-English language series to be nominated for an Emmy Award in a major category, tying with Severance with 14 nominations overall.

Meanwhile, although Stranger earned 13 nominations over all, fans have been left fuming after actresses Millie Bobby Brown and Sadie Sink were snubbed for their stellar performances in season four.

Following the successful release of season two, fans were delighted to hear the series will be returning once more.

In a post on the show’s official Twitter, one of the trio’s Arconia neighbours wrote: ‘My neighbors have a special message for you all: #OnlyMurdersInTheBuilding will return for Season 3!
