All Elite Wrestling star Paul Wight will treat fans to a run as Captain Insano before he hangs up his boots.

The veteran wrestler – best known for his legendary two-decade run in WWE before joining AEW last year – is determined to return to the ring after getting himself in incredible shape over the past couple of years, and he has some interesting plans.

Referencing his character from 1998 Adam Sandler comedy The Waterboy, he said: ‘He’ll [Captain Insano] be back. The guy who wrote The Waterboy has approved.

‘Tony Khan and I have secured the rights to Captain Insano. There’s already an outfit made, the whole nine yards. We’re doing a lot of prep work, and this will be my last hoorah so to speak.’

It sounds like Wight wants to bring back his wrestling alter ego – who appeared as the TV hero of Sandler’s character – for one last in-ring stint before he retires, but he insisted it’s simply meant to be ‘fun’.

He told Wrestling Inc: ‘Let’s be honest – I don’t think this character is going to be a killer going out there trying to beat Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship.

‘At this point, I think this character is just to have fun. We’ll see how it goes, but for me right now, this is just a chance to have fun with this character and be a bright spot on the show.

‘We’ll see how I’m feeling, and we’ll see how everybody takes off with it.’

The former world champion – whose final WWE match saw him lose to Drew McIntyre in a WWE Title match which technically took place at WrestleMania 36 – admitted he is focused on getting back between the ropes.

‘My whole reason for coming to AEW was to work on commentary and to compete more,’ he said, while laughing off a potential bout with new TNT Champion Wardlow.

‘Wardlow is too hot for me right now. Wardlow’s on fire right now. You’ve got to pick and choose those battles. I’m going to wait till he cools off, I don’t feel like taking that powerbomb.’

AEW Dynamite airs Wednesday nights at 1am on Fite TV.
