Former Love Island star Tyler Cruickshank has confessed islanders were ‘told off’ when putting on accents in the villa, but that hasn’t stopped some contestants doing exactly that this series, and viewers seem pretty baffled.

Tyler appeared on the 2021 series of the reality dating programme, where he was coupled up with Kaz Kwami, although the pair split shortly after leaving the villa.

Revealing some of the rules the islanders had to live by in the villa, Tyler confessed that putting on accents resulted in getting ‘told off’, explaining: ‘When we were saying things in there we would get told off quite a lot because they weren’t politically correct.’

He added to the Daily Star: ‘You can’t do accents either. I was trying to use the French accent and I wasn’t very good which is probably why they told me off.’

However, in Wednesday’s episode, viewers were confused over why some of the contestants, particularly Summer Botwe, had started speaking with an American accent.

Summer, who is currently coupled up with Dami Hope, was picked by bombshell Adam Collard for a date, during which she switched from her English accent to an American one.

Viewers took to social media to share their confusion over Summer’s American accent, with one writing: ‘Why does Summer keep talking in an American accent?’

Another penned: ‘Summer’s American accent I can’t deal with the cringe,’ while a third wrote: ‘Summer’s American accent is SO ANNOYING. Then again, it’s so fun to do so I’m not stopping either!!’

Others defended Summer’s accent, with one writing: ‘Y’all leave Summer alone, the accent thing is obviously a nervous reaction,’ while another joked that Summer’s ‘new accent’ would get her ‘another chance with the guys.’

Someone else commented: ‘Summer and this American accent is so cute. Peeped it when she went on a date with Adam too.’

Later in the evening, Casa Amor bombshell Josh Samuel Le Grove took on the accent too, leaving viewers cringing.
