Metallica’s anthem Master of Puppets is continuing to rock up the charts after winning hoards of new fans from Stranger Things.

The single, taken from the metal band’s third studio album, has entered the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time at number 40 – 36 years after it was originally released in 1986.

And it’s not just climbing the charts in the States. The track looks set to make its debut in the UK singles chart Top 40 after reaching number 27 in the mid-week rankings.

Fans have been rushing to listen to the song after an unforgettable scene, quickly dubbed one of the best in the season, featuring Eddie Munson (Joseph Quinn).

Standing on top of his trailer with his electric guitar, the student plugs in an amp and breaks into a blistering rendition of the titular track to Metallica’s first major album in 1986, with his riff being joined by the full track in the background.

Eddie was using the song to help distract the Upside Down’s bats away from the Creel home so that Steve (Joe Keery), Nancy (Natalia Dyer) and Robin (Maya Hawke) could infiltrate Vecna’s lair with the hopes of killing him.

Metallica have heaped praise on the scene and the Millie Bobby Brown starring show’s soundtrack, saying in an Instagram post that the way its creators the Duffer brothers ‘incorporated music into Stranger Things has always been next level’.

‘We were all stoked to see the final result and when we did we were totally blown away…’ they wrote.

‘It’s so extremely well done, so much so, that some folks were able to guess the song just by seeing a few seconds of Joseph Quinn’s hands in the trailer!! How crazy cool is that?’

Stranger Things appear to have a knack of bringing new audiences to underappreciated 80s classic, with Kate Bush also enjoying a new legion of fans with Running Up That Hill.

After featuring in the hit Netflix sci-fi drama, the artpop singer is estimated to raked in $2.3million (£1.9m) in streaming royalties alone.

As well as earning some serious dollar, Running Up That Hill has broken three Guinness Book of World Records for the UK’s official single charts: the longest gap between number one spot; the longest time for a track to hit number one and the oldest female artist to get a number one.

Stranger Things is availble to stream on Netflix.
