Whoopi Goldberg has spat in rage live on The View after footage was leaked from the Uvalde school mass shooting.

Texan newspaper Austin American-Statesman made the decision to publish the clip, which shows police officers standing back as the gunman sprayed bullets into classrooms filled with children, without consent from the victims’ grieving families.

Salvador Ramos, 18, shot dead 19 students and two teachers after crashing his truck outside Robb Elementary School on the morning of May 24, prompting international outcry over gun laws in the States.

During Wednesday’s episode of the ABC talkshow, a visibly angry and shaken up Whoopi slammed the publication for making the distressing video public, saying the move ‘makes me insane.’

The 66-year-old said: ‘I find it indefensible. I’m sorry you forgot that, attached to all those sounds, are people’s children, and you didn’t have to do this.

‘They were going to see this video on Sunday, you did not have to release this and leak it.

‘I think it’s appalling, and you should be ashamed of yourselves for doing that, for being thoughtless about the parents who have to relive this every day because it’s on television every time you turn around.

‘I don’t know if you guys over at that newspaper have kids but shame on you. I know it doesn’t mean anything coming from me, but shame on you.’

After sharing her upset, Whoopi spat on the floor in anger to the sound of clapping from the audience.

Sharing her thoughts on the matter, Whoopi’s co-host Sunny Hostin said the parents should have been informed ‘no question’ about the video but called the leak a ‘difficult balancing act’ of journalistic ethics.

Sunny added: ‘It’s so important that we be able to, as the public… videos, in my view, lead to just results, increased training, awareness, it can really change the public narrative.’

Other celebrites to have shared their distress over the fatal shooting and called for a crackdown on gun laws include Taylor Swift and Kourtney Kardashian.

Grammy-winning singer Taylor Swift tweeted: ‘Filled with rage and grief, and so broken by the murders in Uvalde. By Buffalo, Laguna Woods and so many others. By the ways in which we, as a nation, have become conditioned to unfathomable and unbearable heartbreak. Steve’s words ring so true and cut so deep.’

The Blank Space singer was referring to a video of Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr, who delivered an emotionally-charged message in a press conference before the NBA western conference finals.

The View airs weekdays on ABC.
