BTS rapper J-Hope has admitted he feels ‘pressure’ and a ‘sense of responsibility’ after becoming the first member of the group to go solo after the group revealed they were working on more personal projects earlier this year.

J-Hope, 28, whose real name is Jung Ho-seok, released his debut solo album, Jack in the Box, today and he has admitted he’s feeling the nerves.

‘It’s half nervousness, half excitement. Since I’m the first one to go solo, I feel a sense of responsibility and there’s definitely some pressure as well.’

He continued: ‘Jack in the Box is filled only with things I personally wanted to do, almost to the point where I worry to myself, “Did I focus too much on solely what I wanted to do?”‘

Speaking to Rolling Stone magazine, J-Hope said he showed the album to fellow BTS member RM before anybody else in the group, to check whether Jack in the Box was up to standard.

‘The first person I shared the album with, it’s always the same for me. I always share with RM first’, he said.

‘I could have also shared it with [BTS member] Suga, but he likes to be very respectful of the process. He told me, “I’ll listen to it when it comes out”.’

Despite feeling nervous, J-Hope did express his excitement about the album finally being available to the public.

‘I think that’s where the half nervousness comes from. This album is really meaningful to me, and mostly, I feel proud and excited it’s coming out.’

J-Hope also received encouraging words from his bandmates when they heard the album for the first time, joking one ‘had a bit of a brian freeze’ due to the positive response.

The other members of the group have confirmed that they are currently working on albums of their own, with member Suga having ‘productive’ days in the studio.

Jimin, another member of the group, has released solo singles in the past and earlier this year released new song With You.

J-Hope revealed that the completion of Jack in the Box also encouraged Jung Kook to get to work: ‘For Jung Kook, it was really funny. After hearing the album, he suddenly went to his studio. I think he felt the motivation to start.’

BTS recently announced that they would be working alongside Disney Plus for a selection of docuseries and recorded concerts.
