Rapper Kodak Black arrested on drug possession charges in South Florida-Emily Bashforth-Entertainment – Metro

Rapper Kodak Black has been arrested on drug charges in Florida and is awaiting a bond hearing.

The US star – real name Bill Kapri – was reportedly pulled over in his car for illegal window tinting initially, with US media claiming that he was driving a purple Dodge Durango.

According to CNN, his windows ‘appeared to be darker than the legal limit’, with officers allegedly also discovering that Black’s license and registration were both expired.

While searching the vehicle, authorities are then said to have found 31 oxycodone pills, which is a narcotic drug that is highly addictive, but often prescribed to treat severe pain.

Cops are also said to have found $74,960 (£63,230) in cash.

Black, 25, is said to have been charged on Friday, July 15 after being booked in at Fort Lauderdale jail by Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).

His two official charges are possession of a controlled substance without prescription and trafficking in oxycodone.

The rapper’s attorney, Bradford Cohen, shared a statement on Twitter the following day, writing: ‘Never Judge a case based on an arrest. There are always additional facts and circumstances that give rise to a defence, especially in this case. We will get him a bond today and move forward with resolving the matter quickly.’

This is not Black’s first run-in with the law as, in 2019, he was sentenced to prison for weapons possession, before being pardoned in 2021 by former US President Donald J. Trump.

Former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said the musician was ‘a prominent artist and community leader’ in a statement at the time.

Reports of Black’s recent arrest follow claims that he was shot in an altercation in West Hollywood, where a Justin Bieber afterparty was taking place in February.

Two other victims also allegedly sustained gunshot wounds after a fight broke out, but Black’s injuries were not thought to have been life-threatening.

The three wounded were all taken to hospital, with police confirming that the incident was ‘not gang related’.

Kodak Black’s reps and Florida Highway Patrol have been contacted for comment.
