Stranger Things season 4 star Joseph Quinn has opened up on attempting is Hawkins accent.

The UK actor, who became a solid fan-favourite, played Eddie Munson, Dungeons and Dragons master, who is killed off after sustaining fatal injuries from bats.

Joseph, known by some for appearances on Game of Thrones, seemed to convince fans into thinking his accent was authentic enough, but in reality, practicing for it wasn’t as simple as it seemed.

Speaking on Ed Gamble and James Acaster’s podcast Off Menu, Joseph revealed that putting on a fake American accent actually left him feeling ‘like a sociopath.’

Talking about his Stranger Things role, James complimented Joseph’s accent, before the pair tried to attempt American accents on the podcast, much to their amusement.

While James gave the accent his best, Joseph commented: ‘That’s how I thought I sounded, you feel like a sociopath.’

‘After a while I was so far down the rabbit hole after like points of being like, “Do I sound good? Do you like this?”‘

He continued: ‘You put the shoe on the other foot.

‘At one point I was honestly so deep in it, that [Joe Keery] was like, “Dude, I can’t save you, but I promise you it’ll be fine.”‘

As well as needing reassurance from Joe, who plays Steve Harrington in the Netflix sci-fi series, Eddie has previously shared that the accent ‘didn’t feel normal’ to him.

He told Inverse that he would practice even when he wasn’t on set, saying: ‘I just feel like an idiot. But you kind of have to do it. There’s no way around it.’

Joseph’s character Eddie left fans heartbroken in his final scene, after sacrificing himself to help the others get away.

In his final moments, an injured Eddie was proud of himself for being brave, reminding Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo): ‘I didn’t run away this time, right? You’re gonna have to look after those little sheep for me,’ as he’s planning to graduate.

‘I think it’s my year, Henderson. I think it’s finally my year. I love you man.’

Dustin replied: ‘I love you, too,’ before Eddie died in his arms, and fans couldn’t cope.
