Sophie Raworth has ended her stint presenting BBC’s Sunday Morning, after taking over the reigns from Andrew Marr.

The 54-year-old was a temporary replacement for the veteran journalist and broadcaster’s current affairs programme, which was previously called The Andrew Marr Show.

Sophie took over Andrew’s duties on January 9, after the 62-year-old quit the BBC to work for Global, where he currently fronts his own radio show on LBC.

After just over seven months in the role, Sophie wrapped up her final episode today with guests including contenders in the Conservative leadership battle, such as Penny Mordaunt and Tom Tugendhat.

In the last few minutes of the show, Sophie said goodbye to her viewers, saying: ‘And that is it from us here on Sunday Morning. The last time you will hear this iconic music. And that is also it from me.

‘When I stepped into Andrew Marr’s show or shoes in January I never imagined we would be dealing with a war in Europe and the end of this Boris Johnson era. Extraordinary times.

‘It has been a privilege to be with you throughout them.’

Sophie has had her fair share of headline-grabbing moments on Sunday Morning, among them making a savage dig at Piers Morgan back in April.

Just as she was about to conclude the show, the outspoken broadcaster couldn’t resist a cheeky self-promotion.

Addressing the launch of Piers Morgan Uncensored, which premiered on April 25, he said: ‘Don’t forget tomorrow night, 8pm.’

Sophie, who was slightly taken aback by the interruption, replied: ‘Hang on a minute, I was about to say good luck with your new venture.’

Reflecting on the moment Piers dramatically walked off the Good Morning Britain set following an on-air clash with weather presenter Alex Beresford, she quipped: ‘Don’t storm off this time!’

Sophie joined the BBC in 1992, beginning as a news reporter and going on to become a presenter on BBC News at Six and the BBC News at Ten.

As well as Sunday Morning, she has also presented Watchdog and Crimewatch.

Now that her time on Sunday Morning has drawn to a close, the BBC will begin conducting the search for a permanent presenter.

In the meantime, the Beeb will be busy preparing for an entirely new Sunday morning show presented by its former political editor Laura Kuenssberg, which will be on air from September.
