Russell Crowe has proven he’s still the biggest Gladiator fan, as he took his kids on a tour of his ‘old office’, aka the actual Colosseum.

Hey, when in Rome…

The actor, who famously starred as Maximus in Sir Ridley Scott’s iconic film in 2000, returned to his roots two decades later, with his sons in tow.

Sharing a snap of himself and a group, including his girlfriend Britney Theriot, 31, and kids Charles, 18, and Tennyson, 16, outside the ancient ampitheatre, he joked: ‘Taking the kids to see my old office.’

Safe to say, everyone had the same joke, rushing to ask the actor the immortal question: ‘Were they not entertained?’

Russell, 58, continued his tour with the Trevi Fountain, describing it as one of his ‘favourite places in the universe’.

The actor, who most recently starred as Zeus in Thor: Love and Thunder, starred alongside Connie Nielsen and Joaquin Phoenix in Gladiator, which followed a former Roman General sent into slavery who seeks revenge against the emperor who murdered his family.

While Russell picked up the best actor Oscar, the film was awarded best picture – and in recent years, there’s been talk of a sequel (despite Russell’s character being killed off in the original).

Sharing an update, Sir Ridley said it’s all go after he finishes his film Kitbag, starring Joaquin as Napoleon Bonaparte.

‘I’m already having [the next] Gladiator written now,’ he told Empire. ‘So when I’ve done Napoleon, Gladiator will be ready to go.’

Russell has spoken out about the much-desired sequel – to be set 25 to 30 years after the first – saying he was ‘hopeful’ for the follow up – although what his role would be remains to be seen.

‘I keep being like this sort of party pooper when I say, I just wanted to remind you I died in the first one,’ Russell told E! News.

‘So, I don’t really know. This far away, could we play with that? We could…’

He went on: ‘I can tell you those conversations [of a sequel] have been going on since the last day of shooting.

‘There’s been a lot of different ideas of approaching things.’

Russell shares his teenage sons with his ex-wife, Danielle Spencer. The pair married in 2003 but split in 2012.
