It still lacks a launch date, but Halo Infinite’s campaign co-op is now in beta and you can play it until the beginning of August.

Campaign co-op is such a key part of the Halo series that fans were naturally confused and annoyed that Halo Infinite launched without it.

Developer 343 Industries vowed to add it post-launch, but has had to regularly delay its inclusion. With any luck, the wait won’t be much longer since they’ve now launched a private beta test for the feature.

The beta will run for two weeks until August 1, but 343 has no plans to open it to everybody. The only people who can participate are those who’ve signed up for either the Xbox Insider programme or the Halo Insider programme.

As a reminder, it being a beta means that it’s using an in-development build and 343 fully expects for there to be some level of instability and for crashes to occur.

It hasn’t provided any sort of launch window for campaign co-op, but if 343 is beta testing it now, perhaps we’ll see it arrive before the end of summer or early autumn.

A Halo Waypoint blog post from last month has details about what to expect from campaign co-op, such as it allowing for up to four players (all of whom will play as Master Chief), how any progress made will be saved for all players, and how it’s not limited by platform (so Xbox and PC owners can play co-op together).

Halo Infinite co-op beta – how to join on Xbox

If you’re especially eager to join the beta test yourself, you may have a shot by signing up for the Xbox Insider programme, since it is available to anyone.

Doing that is simple; just head to the Xbox store page on your console or the Microsoft store on your PC, search for Xbox insider bundle, and select Get or Install. Then you can download the build any time during the beta test’s duration.

You’ll need to open the Xbox Insider Hub under the apps tab in Games and Apps on the Xbox dashboard. From there, select Previews on the left-hand side of the screen, navigate to the Halo Infinite – Insider page, and you’ll be prompted to join.

Afterwards, you’ll be sent to the store page where you can download the build and access it from your home page.

If you’re a Steam user, however, you’re out of luck unfortunately. Only those who were already signed up to the Halo Insider programme before July 11 are eligible for the Steam beta test and 343 says it’s unable to add new players on that front.

After co-op launches, 343’s next priority will likely be the Forge mode. It’s currently slated to launch alongside season 3 of the multiplayer, but we wouldn’t be shocked if it experiences another delay.

Halo Infinite is available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
