We’ve lost track of how many ‘leaks’ there have been concerning Grand Theft Auto 6. While a couple have come from verified sources, it’s safe to assume that the majority are completely false.
Earlier this month, for instance, a purported megaleak began making the rounds for allegedly containing everything there is to know about Grand Theft Auto 6, and we do mean everything.
Not just a supposed release date of late 2024, but specific details about its map (or maps), the three playable characters and their backstories, a story synopsis, new gameplay features, and how it will be integrated with Grand Theft Auto Online.
Frankly, the very idea that that much info could have leaked online sounds too good to be true and if one, far more trustworthy, source is to be believed, it is.
Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, who previously backed up claims that GTA 6 will feature an ever-evolving map, has debunked the entire leak, outright calling it fan fiction.
Speaking on Reddit, Schreier points out that nobody could have access to this much information, but also that so much about the game is in flux since it’s still in development.
A lot can change during the development process, so even if half of what this supposed leak said is accurate, some of it could be left on the cutting room floor and not make it to the final release.
Schreier adds that the number of playable characters is wrong too, only elaborating by saying that GTA 6 definitely won’t have three of them. Whether this means there’ll be more or less than three is anyone’s guess.
The Google document containing the leak has since been removed from Reddit, but we were able to find the link to it. All the text is blacked out, but you can easily read it by highlighting it.

The information still being available further suggests that the leak is fake since, if it wasn’t, Rockstar would have issued a copyright takedown to prevent it from being spread. Although whoever wrote it seems to know this and claims that Rockstar isn’t taking it down to avoid enforcing the Streisand effect.
‘They’ve allowed thousands of fake leaks to survive. Taking this down, out of all of them would prove the legitimacy,’ it reads.
This isn’t exactly the strongest defence, since games companies seem to rarely care about this. Activision has happily struck down numerous Call Of Duty leaks and Hideo Kojima even asked for a website to delete its report on his unannounced Overdose game, despite it not leaking much to begin with.
