Temperatures are soaring across the UK and it’s safe to say us Brits aren’t coping well but, fortunately, West End productions are doing what they can to look after their performers.
Warnings for extreme heat have been issued – meaning there’s a danger to life – and unprecedented highs of more than 40°C could be seen in central England.
Everyone is being encouraged to do what they can to stay safe amid the record-breaking heat, including slathering on the SPF, staying in the shade, and remaining hydrated.
Musical comedy Six – written by Lucy Moss and Toby Marlow – first hit the stage in 2017 and has since seen success across the globe, with productions on Broadway and in Australia.
Ahead of the show’s London performances this week, a sign was placed outside the venue to notify ticket holders of what was in place to ensure performances can go ahead smoothly despite the heat.
‘At today’s performance there will be a number of brief pauses during the show to allow our Queens extra time to hydrated and cool due to the current high temperatures,’ the notice read.

‘Please remain in your seats during these moments. Thank you for your understanding.’
Six is a modern retelling of the story of Henry VIII’s six wives – Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves, Catherine Howard and Catherine Parr.
The show is presented as a pop concert, with each Queen taking turns to sing about their trauma in a bid to find out who suffered the most at the hands of the King and, therefore, deserves to be the group’s lead singer – it’s basically Little Mix meets history GCSE and a good time all round.
Six isn’t the only production prioritising safety as the heatwave rages, with venues hosting shows including Disney’s Frozen and The Lion King telling Metro.co.uk that venues are air conditioned and fresh water is available.

Cast members will also be regularly checked to ensure safety and production teams will be taking ‘all the necessary measures to ensure our cast member’s health and well-being.’
As for the public, London’s Novello Theatre – currently housing Mamma Mia! – displays a message on their website reading: ‘During this period of exceptionally hot weather, you are advised to consider wearing loose-fitting clothing and drinking plenty of water when visiting our theatres.’

The Met Office has warned that some parts of the country many get hotter than some parts of the Sahara Desert.
Experts have also raised concerns that people could die in the heat, with Brits being urged to do the ‘neighbourly thing’ and check on those more vulnerable.
