The Great British Bake Off luckily isn’t about to experience any heat related chaos, as Channel 4 has confirmed the series isn’t currently filming.

Britain is currently experiencing record-breaking temperatures, with the heat only set to rise further today.

Last night was the UK’s hottest night on record, according to provisional Met Office figures, and today is set to get up to a sweltering 40°C degrees for the first time ever.

Travel chaos is expected on the transport network after the sweltering heat suspended flights at two airports, because their runways had apparently ‘melted’.

But some TV fans are more concerned about whether this year’s GBBO contestants might be facing chocolate week during the soaring temperatures.

Former Bake Off hopeful Michael Chakraverty even weighed in on the discussion, and couldn’t help but tease fans of the show.

He tweeted: ‘Bet they’re filming chocolate week in the Bake Off tent today.’

A fan responded: ‘Or ice cream week,’ with another commenting: ‘Nah reckon it’s Baked Alaska week.’

‘I was thinking the same thing. Someone was probably going to try making a cake topper out of white chocolate. :-D,’ someone else shared.

Luckily, he was able to put viewers’ minds at rest, confirming the show would’ve concluded filming slightly earlier this year.

He followed up: ‘To be clear, they defo finished filming a wee while ago x.’

A Channel 4 spokesperson also confirmed to Metro.co.uk that the series is ‘not currently filming.’

In the past, there have been some very memorable moments which have seen contestants’ bakes end in disaster due to the heat.

Back in 2020, contestant Laura Adlington famously saw her showstopper ice cream cake collapse as it failed to stay cool.

Elsewhere, baker Iain Watters served his failed Baked Alaska to Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood in a bin, after another ice cream-related disaster.

It unsurprisingly didn’t go down well with the pair, seeing him eliminated that week, and earning him a place in Bake Off history.

‘I know he did it at the spur of the moment but I think it’s so unacceptable,’ said Mary afterwards, back in 2014.

Great British Bake Off returns later this year to Channel 4.
