Lorraine Kelly didn’t hold back in mocking Prince Andrew over his notorious ‘I can’t sweat’ comments amid the current heatwave.

Back in 2019, a key moment from The Duke of York’s interview with Newsnight’s Emily Maitlis involved him claiming he ‘doesn’t sweat.’

As temperatures in the UK are set to hit the highest ever, with predictions of 40°C for the first time ever, Lorraine didn’t hold back from making a quick quip about Prince Andrew’s claims.

The ITV presenter joked: ‘God love him in this heat.’

The comments come after Prince Andrew’s interview in 2019, where Maitlis had been questioning him over claims he slept with Virginia Giuffre when she was 17.

The Newsnight presenter highlighted that Guiffre had been ‘very specific’ about meeting Andrew at the Tramp nightclub on March 10, 2001, claiming the duke was ‘profusely sweating’.

But the duke said there was a ‘slight problem’ with that story as he was allegedly unable to perspire at the time.

During the interview, he claimed: ‘I have a peculiar medical condition which is that I don’t sweat or I didn’t sweat at the time.

‘…I didn’t sweat at the time because I had suffered what I would describe as an overdose of adrenaline in the Falklands War when I was shot at and I simply… it was almost impossible for me to sweat.’

Lorraine had been introducing Newsnight’s former producer Sam McAlister as she made the quip, with the pair discussing that the car crash interview is being turned into a film.

Based on McAlister’s book Scoops: Behind the Scenes of the BBC’s Most Shocking Interviews, the upcoming movie will focus on how the Beeb landed their explosive chat with the disgraced royal.

Scoop will also reportedly delve into the Queen’s third eldest child’s friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, which had largely been the subject of the 2019 interview.

Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV.
