This CAN’T be a coincidence… surely?!

Warning: spoilers ahead for Stranger Things.

The finale of Stranger Things season 4 volume 2 saw one of the most beloved characters of the series die in the Upside Down, after Eddie (Joseph Quinn) proved he was an absolute hero.

However, many fans have been theorising that the interdimensional rockstar could actually still be alive – and a new theory has taken a deepdive to demonstrate why this may be the case, revealing a bunch of brilliant Easter Eggs in the process.

So far, one of the most widely-believed theories is that after being seemingly bitten to death by the Demobats in the Upside Down during the fight against Vecna, Eddie may transform into Dungeons and Dragons vampire villain Kas.

A Reddit user who goes by the username Shmalexandrea has visited the episodes leading up to Eddie’s death, explaining that their fiancé noticed various details that appear to foreshadow Eddie surviving his seemingly fatal ordeal.

They wrote: ‘Today my fiancé pointed out something that I haven’t seen anyone else say yet. This doesn’t explain how or why, just a possible hint/sign that Eddie could be back for season 5.

‘So this Iron Maiden album came out in 1986. If you look closely on the far right it says “Eddie Lives”. And some of the songs on that album include: Caught Somewhere in Time, Wasted Years, Sea of Madness, Stranger in a Strange Land.’

After sharing a link to an image of the album cover, which features the words ‘Eddie Lives’ graffitied on the wall on the right hand side, the Reddit user then added – most importantly – that this was the exact album Eddie was holding when he exclaimed: ‘This is music!’ to the rest of the gang while defending his love of metal.

‘This is the album that Eddie is holding in the “this IS music” scene, which is titled “Piece of Mind.” Eddie is the character/mascot on the cover of both of these albums, and “Piece of Mind” shows Eddie literally trapped,’ they said.

Let’s look at Iron Maiden’s 1986 album cover, as pointed out by the quoted tweet. Frozen in Time features a poster on the side saying ‘EDDIE LIVES’. In the second picture here you can see official merch from their 1987 tour, and the slogan in full.https://t.co/4PzvIVJPDD pic.twitter.com/ZxFVcaVwPo

As fans of Iron Maiden will be aware, Eddie (aka Eddie the Head) is the mascot of the band, starring on all of their album covers and making special appearances at their concerts.

Coincidence? Knowing the Duffer brothers, as we obviously do so well, we reckon that every decision they make in their epic Netflix series is likely a well-thought-out choice.

The Reddit user continued while outlining their theory: ‘I don’t really think this could be a coincidence, while I don’t agree with every choice the Duffer brothers have made, they’re also not dumb by any means.

‘They know what they’re doing, they’ve planted the most subtle hints SEASONS ahead of time, so what are the chances of them accidentally using a band where their actual “character” has the same name and a lot of parallels?’

Several fellow fans agreed, with one responding: ‘Hope you’re right man. Lots of parallels there. I’ve been after the Eddie is Kas, the spiked shield wielding vampire minion theory but whatever gets him back to us!’

‘Your theory is interesting and I would love it to be true. I didn’t see the records he was holding up and didn’t realise they were Piece of Mind and Somewhere In Time. Good eye!’ another said.

However, others felt they were clutching at straws trying to find a way that Eddie could still be alive, with one person describing the many theories as ‘futile’.

Stranger Things is available to watch on Netflix.
