FIFA 23 rumoured to launch late September – closed beta for August-Michael Beckwith-Entertainment – Metro

Given FIFA’s usual release schedule, a late September launch is perfectly believable (pic: EA)

Ahead of the FIFA 23 gameplay reveal, details about its release date, beta, and crossplay functionality may have already leaked.

EA will be unveiling its next, and final, FIFA game later today. The new box art with cover stars Sam Kerr and Kylian Mbappé has already been unveiled, but we’ll be seeing some actual gameplay soon and no doubt the release date as well.

Although it’s quite easy to predict a general release window for FIFA games, with them usually coming out later September or early October, a specific date may have already leaked.

It was recently suggested that FIFA 23 will launch on September 30, which would make sense as that’s a Friday (the same day previous FIFA games launched).

However, it’s also said that this will be preceded by an early release of the game’s Ultimate Edition, will be on September 26 (a Monday).

EA did the same thing with FIFA 21 and 22, releasing their Ultimate Editions a few days before the standard edition, so there is precedent.

Lastly, a closed beta will become available on August 11. If that’s the case, then EA will definitely announce this either as part of today’s reveal trailer or shortly afterwards.

These claims come from FUTZone on Twitter, who is considered to be a reliable source for FIFA leaks and has made multiple claims about FIFA 23 in the past.

Most recently, they described the game as ‘the most content packed, innovative, FIFA franchise of all time, with a complete overhaul in key gameplay mechanics, 7000+ new animations, content roadmap, World Cup mode + more.’

A few days ago, they said that FIFA 23 will improve upon its predecessor’s crossplay and allow PC owners to play against PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S owners.

Only in FUT* it isn’t in any other game mode.

This has been corroborated by an eXputer report from Tom Henderson, another reputable insider. However, this won’t be the case for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions, which will only sport crossplay functionality with each other.

The FIFA 23 reveal will go live today at 5pm BST on YouTube, so we don’t have much longer to wait for official details. You can likely expect pre-orders to go live after the reveal as well.

Honestly, the real question is what will come after FIFA 23. EA has opted to abandon the name and licence because FIFA was charging more than $1 billion for its use.

EA will instead be using the name EA Sports FC going forward, while FIFA is looking to partner with another company to make future FIFA games.

FIFA 23 releases this year for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
