Sinitta has completely thrown the book at the ‘never be friends with your ex’ trope and has offered to officiate Simon Cowell’s marriage.

The singer, who previously dated Simon on and off for 20 years after they first met in 1980, is a trained minister and is willing to put her skills to the test as the Syco boss prepares to wed Lauren Silverman.

‘I am ordained so I could actually officiate if Simona and Lauren would like me to,’ Sinitta told Good Morning Britain presenters Charlotte Hawkins and Ben Shephard on Thursday’s programme.

‘It’s a legal situation, so the offer is out there now and it’s up to them.’

‘So, you could ordain and do the after-show party as well and perform,’ Ben suggested, much to Sinitta’s delight.

‘Exactly!’ she laughed. ‘I could do the whole thing! I’m actually a DJ. I’m a one-woman show.’

Simon, 63, proposed to Lauren, 44, on the island country of Barbados on Christmas Day last year, 13 years after they met at the same place, while Lauren was still married to Simon’s then-close friend, Andrew Silverman.

The pair went public with their relationship in 2013, with Andrew and Lauren’s divorce finalised in November that year.

It was previously reported that the pair would tie the knot last month in London, but his fellow BGT judge David Walliams raised doubts when he revealed he had yet to receive an invitation to the nuptials in early May – or asked to be best man.

The comedian and bestselling author joked that he wanted to be there and ‘ruin the day for him’.

As for Simon and Sinitta, the pair have remained good pals since the demise of their on-again/off-again relationship.

The singer previously insisted she’d never come between Simon’s family after his son Eric was born in 2014.

When she was asked when she and Simon ‘finally called it quits’ Sinitta told New Magazine: ‘There was always an element of “well, it’s never really over.”

‘But when Eric was born that was it. I would never come between his family.

‘[Lauren] and I were best friends. I’m really happy for them, but it was hard and caused a fallout.’

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
