The first ever trailer for the new drama about the life of Mike Tyson certainly holds no punches.
Starring Moonlight actor Trevante Rhodes as the former heavy-eight champion, fans have been given a tense flavour what’s to come in the eight-parter, which promises to give an ‘unauthorized and no-holds-barred look’ at the life of one of the most controversial sporting figures in history.
Formerly titled Iron Mike, Mike explores the tumultuous ups and downs of the 56-year-old’s boxing career and personal life – from being a beloved global athlete to a pariah and back again.
Mike also examines class and race in America, fame and the power of media, misogyny, the wealth divide and the promise of the American Dream.
Set to the ominous, drawn-out sound of a clock ticking, the trailer begins with Mike, who is played by Trevante Rhodes, clenching his fists, in what appears to be a therapist’s rooms.
Mike goes on to ask: ‘Who am I? People just say an animal. They call me a savage.

The two-minute-long video the cuts to shots of a young Mike running away from a policeman brandishing gun, as well as of the boxer in the ring, pounding his opponent to the ground.
The audience is then shown a series of images of him being papped relentlessly on the red carpet clutching his beautiful first wife Robin Givens (Laura Harrier), while other moments of the trailer reveal his time in prison after being convicted of rape.

After more scenes in which Mike is seen training, on glamourous holidays and having his mugshot taken, a voiceover warns him: ‘Don’t be that monster, be our King.’
In the final moments of the trailer, clips of the drama are spliced with the words: ‘Champion’, ‘Villian’, ‘Convict’, ‘Icon’, ‘Addict’, ‘Warrior.’
