They say love is often found in unexpected places and now that theory is being put to the test as global phenomenon 90 Day Fiancé lands in the UK – and it’s about to be a wild ride.

Shaun – star of 90 Day Fiancé UK – has admitted to sending £400 every month to support his fiancé Christine and her four children in the Philippines.

Not only that, but Shaun even admitted that he’s prepared to spend a whopping £5,000 to fund Christine’s annulment, since she is already legally married.

However, his best friend remains sceptical, even going as far as questioning the paternity of Shaun and Christine’s son.

The new series will follow Shaun and Christine, and eight other loved-up Brits and their long-distance lovers for 90 days to see if it’s the real deal, or if they’ve made a big mistake and should call the whole thing off.

Eternal Shaun, 41, met Filipino mum-of-four Christine, 42, online back in 2012. They started dating in 2013 and they’ve been in a long-distance relationship ever since.

As Shaun admits, it’s the happiest he has ever been: ‘She makes me feel like I’ve won the lottery every single day,’ he beams.

Before Christine, Shaun was single and, as he admits, was prone to bouts of loneliness. ‘When I come home from work, I usually say, “Hello toaster, how’re you doing?” or, “Hello kettle.” And sometimes I jump in front of the mirror and say, “Hey Shaun, how’re you doing?”,’ he says, ‘It’s so funny when I look around and I’ve gone crazy on this loneliness.’

Speaking in the episode, Shaun recounts the moment he met Christine online nearly 10 years ago, saying they met on social media and started chatting back and forth.

They then started video chatting, at which point he thought she was a ‘good looking girl’ and questioned, ‘how can a guy like this get a girl like that?’.

Infatuated with her infectious, fun-loving spirit, Shaun is confident Christine is the woman of his dreams, even though he lives in Botley, Hampshire, and she lives nearly 7,000 miles away in Antipolo City, Philippines.

‘I like her quirkiness, I like how she acts silly, you know. But it’s just the way she is, she doesn’t care what people think of her. She just goes out and has fun,’ he says.

‘That’s what I love about her character, that’s what I love about Christine. The Queen herself, my future Queen.’

The long-term plan is for Christine to fly over and live with Shaun in the UK, as the pair are applying for visas and just need to send of their final paperwork. Shaun is hoping she’ll be here ‘very soon’.

But for the time being – and for the past eight years of their relationship – Shaun will continue to financially support Christine by sending her money.

‘Shaun sends me money every month – around £400,’ Christine reveals.

‘The main priority, why Shaun is sending me money, is to support my needs and helps a lot to me and my whole family. I feel like I have financial freedom.’

As Shaun – who works as a cleaning manager – adds, while he can’t be sure of the exact figure, the amount of money he’s sent to fiancé over the years is vast.

He estimates the total is ‘in the hundreds of thousands’ but reckons ‘it’s worth every penny’.

As Shaun admits, his generosity leaves him with a lean budget for himself each month, with just enough left to pay his bills then around £50-£60 for himself.

But, he says that’s ‘more than enough to see me through the month’, although their financial arrangement did raise a few eyebrows initially, with Shaun’s friends and family concerned.

‘When I started sending her money, my parents and all my friends started saying, “Why are you sending her money?’”,’ he says. ‘But to be honest with you I don’t really care, I’m following my heart. It’s my choice. So, you either be part of me in the circle, or you’re not.’

Also in the episode, Shaun pays a visit to his mum and dad, whom he says were ‘sceptical’ about Christine at first, and thought she was ‘using’ him.

Shaun told them to ‘mind your own business’, however, defiantly stating that he ‘chose this path for me’.

Despite his parents’ fears, Shaun is happy with the decisions he’s made and has dedicated himself to Christine, visiting her in the Philippines on multiple occasions, saying it’s now ‘like a second home’.

In 2017, Shaun and Christine’s long-distance relationship welcomed a new arrival, when Christine gave birth to Shaun’s son, which she says felt like ‘God answered our prayers’.

But due to the distance, Shaun has only met his son four times, something that he tearfully admits has been difficult.

He hasn’t been able to hold his son for two years, which is ‘killing’ him, feeling especially ‘gutted’ that his parents never got to hold him as a newborn.

It isn’t just Shaun’s parents who had their doubts, as friend Jimmy also questioned whether he was ‘jumping in too soon’, even going as far as to propose the idea that Christian is not his biological son.

Cynically reminding Shaun to ‘look after you’, in case his son isn’t his, to which Shaun rolls his eyes, stating he has ‘no doubt’ that Christian is his child.

The pair also share a son together (Picture: Discovery+)

‘I don’t need a DNA test. He is my son. You can see there is a resemblance on him,’ he rages.

But despite how in love they are, there’s just one small matter to contend with before Shaun and Christine are able to wed – she’s already married to someone else.

He explains how, in the Philippines, there’s a ‘totally different rule’ since she has to get an annulment, not a divorce, which he states is ‘costing far too much money’.

Astonishingly, Shaun has agreed to save up to pay for Christine’s annulment, despite his finances being stretched as it is.

He’s prepared to pay the £5k so they can be together, assuring that he doesn’t feel jealous, since Christine doesn’t live with her husband.

‘I know she loves me, and I love her.’

So as the couples put it all on the line, viewers can expect explosive family drama, culture clashes, awkward moments, shocking revelations and worlds colliding, with all couples through the series.

The brand-new series of 90 Day Fiancé UK is available to stream exclusively on discovery+ from Sunday, July 24.
