Alison Hammond has revealed that This Morning actually beat Love Island to the idea of an older dating show, amid news that a spin-off featuring middle-aged contestants could be on the way.
This week, it was reported that a new programme, with the working title ‘Your Mum, My Dad’, is apparently being considered by ITV, although it’s yet to be commissioned.
A source claimed that the programme ‘will give those who settled down young a second chance at love while they still feel in their prime’, as the current generation in their 40s and 50s ‘still care about how they look, are fit and healthy, into fashion and are ready to let their hair down’.
On Friday’s This Morning, Alison and Dermot O’Leary spoke to Matthew Wright and Gyles Brandreth about the potential new show, with Alison admitting she ‘loves’ the sound of it.
After reading the source’s quotes from The Sun, and saying how she reckons it would feature ‘intelligent’ conversations between contestants, Alison revealed that ‘Your Mum, My Dad’ isn’t necessarily the most novel idea.
‘I don’t know if you know, but This Morning is always the first to come up with these shows,’ she told the This Morning viewers.

‘We actually did a show called Matchmaker Mountain, and it was literally that! It was matchmaking people in their 40s and 50s and we were the first hot off the press. So it was actually us at This Morning who came up with this idea.’
However, when asked by Dermot if any of the couples who took part in Matchmaker Mountain were still together, she confessed that there weren’t any success love stories to share.
Several Love Island fans have expressed how excited they are over the prospect of a middle-aged version of the dating competition, with one tweeting: ‘Hope these rumours of a Middle Aged #LoveIsland are true!
Not only will I not have to look at an Urban Dictionary to know what they’re saying but when @GaryBarlow is singing or @RealKenBruce is dj-ing in the garden I’ll know who they are.’
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
