Hugh Grant has a memorable history when it comes to saying what’s on his mind, but his recent appearance at Comic Con proved he can still shock us.
He was attending the famous convention in San Diego, giving fans an exclusive look at his new movie that’s based on the Dungeons & Dragons tabletop game.
Set to be titled Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, Hugh, 61, will play the role of Forge Fletcher, a Rogue – the main antagonist in the movie.
And during the middle of the film’s Comic Con panel for the movie on Thursday afternoon, Hugh cracked a joke that had the audience laughing and co-star Michelle Rodriguez shocked.
‘Well, I was a Dungeon Master’, he began. ‘But it was more S&M and less D&D. It’s the English version.’
Michelle, 44, responded in shock, via Entertainment Weekly: ‘I wasn’t expecting that!’

The joke then carried on throughout the day, as Hugh and Michelle attended several of the convention’s panels and spoke to more and more fans.
The moderator at a panel they attended in the afternoon brought the subject up again, telling Hugh that he’d heard the actor had once been a lifelong D&D fan.

Michelle cut in to jokingly remind them both that they were ‘mixing it up with S&M’, and Hugh took that as an opportunity to keep audiences chuckling.
‘She’s not wrong,’ he continued. ‘I’ve been an enthusiastic Dungeon Master for some years now. That’s a British pastime, [a] national sport almost’.
‘I believe that’s why the Jonathans [Dungeons & Dragons directors Daley and Goldstein] thought of me for this, my reputation.’

The movie is set to premiere in the spring of 2023, and will star Chris Pine (Star Trek, Wonder Woman) and Bridgerton’s Duke of Hastings, Regé-Jean Page.
Dungeons & Dragons was adapted for the big screen over 20 years ago by Courtney Solomon, in a version starring Marlon Waylans and Jeremy Irons.

But reviews were negative and it proved to be a major flop with audiences, with the film only recouping just over half of its initial budget of $45million (£37m).
The 2023 version, hoping to perform much better, is helmed by Johnathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley.
The duo have worked together on several films, including Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2017 and Game Night, with Sharon Horgan, the year after.
