The thong has only one place – in the privacy of your back garden when you’re topping up the tan – not on national television.
There really is no need and it attracts the wrong sort of attention.
Baring your bottom in public isn’t elegant – in my opinion, it’s verging on porn and leaves nothing to the imagination.
When it comes to their bodies, every woman is a little bit insecure about something. You’re not telling me these young girls feel truly happy with everything on show, and having it seen from every angle.

It would be far more elegant to see young girls in full coverage swimwear – bikini thongs are both degrading and unnecessary.
The issue is that thong-wearing gen z girls don’t have positive role models like my generation had.
Social media is overrun with ‘influencers’ in skimpy beach wear and millions of young ones of today look up to the likes of Kim Kardashian showing every inch of flesh.
It’s all about following the crowd and that’s what the young ones do. Or, are they trying to get attention?
I saw a girl in town the other day no older than 16 walking around in a skirt so short, it revealed her bottom. It was impossible to know what she was wearing – if anything – beneath, and she clearly thought nothing of it.

If I had a daughter, I would not be happy.
Don’t get me wrong, I am all for women at any age wearing a bikini, if they feel confident in their own skin. But there is no place for a thong in your 20s or in your 50s.
And Miss England has never allowed them.
In my modelling days, I once won a Miss Bikini competition wearing a one piece swimming costume.
Even back in the eighties when the contest was all about parading about on stage in stilettos, women still had to wear full coverage swim suits.

Now, and even though we have decided to bring back the swimwear round for Miss England this year, there is no place for thongs.
While we want women to celebrate their body shapes whatever their size, taste and elegance is a must.”
