American actress Jessica Alba has spoken about going to therapy with her two daughters, allowing them a ‘safe space’ to communicate with her.

Jessica, 41, gained recognition at the age of 19 starring as Max Guevara in the television series Dark Angel, a role for which she received a Golden Globe nomination.

Since then she has gone on to star in the likes of Fantastic Four and Sin City, while raising her son and two daughters with husband Cash Warren.

In a new interview, Jessica opened up on family life and how she attends therapy with both her daughters.

Speaking to Glamour UK, Jessica said she began going to therapy with her eldest daughter Honor Marie, 14, and now also goes with her younger daughter Haven Garner, 10.

The couple also share a four-year-old son, Hayes.

On the subject of therapy with her kids, Jessica explained: ‘I was like, “Look, I’m not perfect. I’m not going to know all the answers, but I want to be a great parent to you.

‘And what you like and don’t is different from what your sister likes and doesn’t like. And I’m going to make mistakes.”‘

She went on, addressing her daughters directly: ‘”Here’s a safe space, you can’t get in trouble – let me know what I’m doing wrong, or what you would like me to do differently.

“Or how do you want me to discipline you when you do screw up? What does that look like for you? And how would you want to be treated so you can still feel like you have your dignity intact?”‘

Jessica and husband Cash first met on the set of Fantastic Four, where Jessica played Storm and Cash worked a personal assistant to the director.

The actress recalled how, on first meeting her future husband, he slipped her a note signed with a dollar sign in place of his name, that said: ‘I really, really like you.’

She added to the outlet: ‘True story, he did!’

They were married in May 2008 while Jessica was pregnant with their first child; the pair decided to elope shortly before baby Honor was born.

The actress recalled how the marriage ‘wasn’t planned’ and how they decided on the morning of that they would simply ‘go to the courthouse and get married.’

This new interview is far from the first time Jessica has spoken about the importance of therapy.

She previously admitted she had to go to therapy over mom-shaming comments she’s received online after sharing stories and images of her family.

Outlining her experience with online trolls on Jada Pinkett Smith’s Red Table Talk, she said she was slammed online for both breastfeeding and bottle feeding.

‘You’re damned if you do and you’re damned if you don’t,’ she worried.

When Jada asked the Honest Company founder to share her advice to women who wanted to share mommy moments on social media, Jessica replied: ‘I’ve had to do a lot of therapy.

‘Now that I’m almost 40, I’ve come to this place where I realized that most people who have something to say is because they are insecure.’

She continued: ‘It’s more of them being ashamed and over-critical of themselves. For some reason, the reaction is to pull other people apart for them to feel justified or for them to feel okay.’
