Sorry, fans of The Walking Dead, Steven Yeun won’t be returning as Glenn Rhee before the show’s big finale later this year.

Yeun, 38, starred in the AMC post-apocalypse drama for seven seasons, racking up a total of 66 episodes in his time.

In the season 7 premiere, he was memorably and brutally murdered by Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and has never returned – not even in a flashback.

Fans had hoped that Yeun could somehow come back after becoming a fan favourite but, speaking to Conan O’Brien, Yeun shut those theories down.

‘The police voice in my head said, “If you do it again, you’re a hack”‘, he told the host while promoting his latest movie, Jordan Peele’s Nope. ‘So, I don’t do it again. I cringe [at the thought]’.

Conan then asked Yeun whether he wanted to leave the show before he was killed off, or whether his hand was forced.

‘I don’t have time to explain this to you, I have to go home’, he joked. ‘Sometimes you just accept what it is and you go with it. There’s no tension behind it.’

Glenn is killed off in issue 100 of The Walking Dead comics, written by Robert Kirkman, and Yeun said he accepted his fate as soon as he knew that.

‘You’re [thinking] like, “Okay”‘, he admitted to Conan. ‘I’m not gonna go kicking and screaming’.

Conan then admitted to Yeun that he had been mean to Jeffrey Dean Morgan following Negan’s murder of Glenn back in 2016.

‘I will admit that [Jeffrey Dean Morgan] came on our show at Comic-Con and I swear to God, it took an effort for me to not have attitude’, he said.

He continued: ‘I’m a rapidly aging adult who understands showbusiness, and I had a little bit of trouble, like ‘You f****r. You killed my friend.’

The Walking Dead’s season six cliffhanger hinged on who had been beaten to death with Negan’s bat off-screen.
