Renee Zellweger is reportedly making a comeback as Bridget Jones for the franchise’s fourth film, but this time, she’s said to be swapping dating woes for motherhood.

The 53-year-old actress is said to be returning to her iconic role, six years after the last saw her give birth to a baby boy.

According to reports, producers are said to be secretly working on the fourth film, six years after Bridget Jones’ Baby, which saw the star pregnant and trying to figure out who the dad is.

A source revealed: ‘There have been few more successful or more popular rom-coms than Bridget Jones over the last couple of decades, but everyone thought this one was done for good.

‘However the producers always knew their was a huge market for another sequel when the right story was available, and this feels like the right time to tell it,’ the insider added to The Sun.

They continued: ‘It will be seven or eight years since the last movie by the time this one hits the big screen, and fans will be desperate to find out what happened. It’s a British classic.’

Production is said to begin later this year, with the new movie being co-penned by creator Helen Fielding.

The last film in the franchise saw Bridget pick between her returning lover Mark Darcy, played by Colin Firth, and new charmer Jack Qwant, played by Patrick Dempsey.

Hugh Grant’s Daniel Cleaver didn’t return, although the film did see appearances by Emma Thompson and Jim Broadbent, and even a cameo from Ed Sheeran.

However, who knows if Hugh will return as, although Mark was indeed the father of Bridget’s baby, the ending of the film saw a newspaper headline showing Daniel had been found alive, after he was supposed to have died.

It’s the drama, we love it!

If the first two films are anything to go by, the fourth instalment will once again be Renee’s battle to pick between Mark and Daniel.

The first film, Bridget Jones’s Diary was released in 2001, while Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason followed in 2004.
