WHAT?!
Brock Lesnar returned quicker than anyone expected (Picture: WWE)
WWE legend Brock Lesnar got the SmackDown crowd on its feet as he hit the ring and laid out Theory.
The Beast Incarnate had reportedly stormed out of the arena earlier in the evening after Vince McMahon announced his shocking retirement after almost 40 years in charge of the company.
Despite speculation Lesnar could quit WWE as a whole following the bombshell news, he returned to a ridiculous ovation at the end of Friday’s show and destroyed Mr. Money In The Bank with his own briefcase and a pair of F-5s.
The stunning moment came after a fantastic main event pitting Theory and The Usos against the Street Profits and Madcap Moss.
The show kicked off with Stephanie McMahon addressing her father Vince McMahon’s retirement and leading fans in a chanting thanking the former boss.
We moved onto the Street Profits entering through the crowd to an incredbile ovation, before they got interrupted by Theory and The Usos before Moss came down to even the odds as we got a wild brawl to keep the energy up.
Adam Pearce came out to make the huge six-man tag team match in the main event, and the six stars delivered in a big way with thrilling action bell to bell.
Paul Heyman tried to convince Jimmy and Jey Uso to take out their own partner , pointing to the threat Theory poses to Roman Reigns – or Lesnar – by virtue of his Money In The Bank briefcase.
That’s how it went down, and Theory would go onto to use his prize as a weapon, only for Lesnar to storm the ring and make his presence felt.
Maxxine Dupri revealed, Gunther destroys Ludwig Kaiser and Happy Corbin attacks Pat McAfee
The first match of the night saw Ludwig Kaiser beat Shinsuke Nakamura in a fantastic match given a decent amount of time.
He got some help from Gunther though, and the Intercontinental Champion looked ready to deliver a brutal chop, only to pat him on the back, lulling his associate into a false sense of security before delivering the devastating strike.
Backstage, SummerSlam opponents Ronda Rousey and Liv Morgan came face to face in a brief but intense war of words, with the SmackDown Women’s Champion insisting she has more passion than her challenger.
The broadcast went back to the announce table where Happy Corbin came out of nowhere to attack Pat McAfee, sparking a wild brawl that spilled backstage just over a week before they meet in the ring at the biggest part of the summer.
After the break, McAfee was absolutely on fire as he hyped up their upcoming clash, vowing to take the fight to ‘Bum Ass Corbin’ – which the crowd chanted on cue.
The New Day were at ringside as The New Vicious Viking Raiders made quick work of Jinder Mahal and Shanky, winning via count out.
Sheamus and Drew McIntyre were at their best on the mic as they met in the ring, with everything leading to them agreeing to face off in the first ever Shillelagh Match.
It seems strange not to book that match for SummerSlam – but regardless, the winner will go onto Clash At The Castle to challenge for the Undisputed WWE Universal Title.
In a fun but quick bout, Raquel Rodriguez picked up a convincing win over former WWE official Sonya Deville.
We also saw Lacey Evans strike Aliyah with a Women’s Right out of nowhere, making it yet another week she’s avoided an actual singles match with the rising star.
Elsewhere, in an all too brief segment, we finally met Maxinne Dupri as NXT star Sofia Cromwell – not Jinny as expected – debuted as Maximum Male Models’ ltest member, with the swimwear collection delayed until next week.
WWE SmackDown airs Friday nights at 1am on BT Sport 1.
