Love Island fans are desperate for the infamous tweet challenge to return to the ITV2 dating series, but with just days to go before the final it’s looking more and more unlikely.
Before Deji Adeniyi, Lacey Edwards, Reece Ford, and Nathalia Campos were brutally dumped from the show on Sunday night, viewers were left somewhat disappointed after the contestants enjoyed a sports day in the villa.
Many expressed their fury over the series of challenges, which included an egg and spoon race, and called for the Twitter game to be reinstated.
‘NO WE WANT THE TWEET CHALLENGE!!!’ raged one on social media, while another said: ‘It’s the last week and there’s no sign of the tweet challenge.’
‘Awe ever gonna get the tweet challenge?’ a third asked.
The Twitter challenge, named Online Buzz, appeared in the 2019 edition, which was won by Amber Gill and Greg O’Shea.

During the game, islanders would hear tweets that have been made about them by the public. They would then need to buzz in, in order to try and guess who the tweet correlated to, with the first to do so being able to answer.
The tweet challenge was scrapped ahead of the winter series in 2020 after producers were accused of faking tweets for drama’s sake.
Alternatively, a similar headline challenge, called The Sidebar Of Shame, arrived in the 2020 winter series of the show and saw headlines about contestants creating frictions between relationships.
While the game didn’t appear in last year’s series, the contestants did play Couple Of Sorts, which saw them tasked with sorting out couples into the order of first, second and third based on several different categories that the public had been voting on.

The categories included most argumentative, most on-sided relationship, and first to split.
It’s been confirmed in the last few days of this year’s Love Island, fans will get to see the return of the talent show. It looks unlikely that the Twitter challenge will be back.
Love Island continues on Monday at 9pm on ITV2.
