Joe Lycett has revealed that he’s managed to pull off an elaborate stunt that was ‘years in the making’ – and no one ever found him out.

Keeping coy on the stunt, which he said he reveals during his tour shows, he teased that he ‘got in trouble with the police’ and things ‘got out of hand’.

We dread to think.

Chatting to the comedian on Lorraine, Ranvir Singh said: ‘You said in January I think that, during this tour that you’re doing that now, you’re going to explain how Strictly, police phone calls, other things – you did an elaborate stunt that took years and you’re going to reveal what it was during the tour, but you haven’t been found out.’

Saying that audience members from his show have done well to keep the secret, Joe, the artist formerly known as Hugo Boss, added: ‘It’s quite an elaborate thing and I did it in secret.

‘As you say, I got in trouble with the police, there were headlines around the world, there was a giant unicorn, drag queens, it got out of hand! What I planned to became much bigger and more beautiful than I ever expected.’

Safe to say it’s not the only time Joe’s had a run-in with the law, as he recently revealed an audience member contacted ‘the rozzers’ after seeing his show.

While it’s not clear what exactly made the ticket holder comfortable, the comic assured ‘the fuzz were very nice about it all’ and ‘particularly enjoyed putting the words “giant donkey d**k” into a message to a police detective’ when penning a statement.

Discussing the hilarious event on The One Show, Joe told presenters Alex Jones and Ronan Keating that he ‘found the whole thing so funny.’

‘When the police rang, I thought it was hilarious,’ the 34-year-old said.

‘I wanted it to go to court, I wanted to be in jail for it. I think it’s so funny that the police got involved. It’s been great fun to watch it unfold.’

The two hosts and fellow guests Denise Van Outen were left in stitches as he recalled the tale, confessing he could ‘sort of’ believe what happened.

‘Anything can happen when you’re performing to lots of people, everyone has different opinions,’ he said.

‘But, I did think it was quite extreme that the police were called because the joke in question is not, to me, it’s not offensive at all. I mean, it’s quite unusual, it’s quite a full-on thing to hear, but it’s not offensive to any group of people,’ he explained, and now we’re dying to hear what the joke was.

Joe continued: ‘It’s not racist, it’s not homophobic, obviously, it’s not misogynistic, it’s none of these things. It’s just silly.

‘But, I can also see that somebody who might be a bit uptight might be cross about it.’

He assured his Twitter followers: ‘Charmed, and hopefully amused, the rozzers have since closed the matter. You’ll be pleased to know that the joke – which I consider to be one of the best I’ve ever written – remains firmly and proudly in the show.

‘The tour continues until September, unless I am jailed.’

Erm, fingers crossed for Joe then?

Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV.
