The Gray Man sequel confirmed by Netflix just days after release thanks to ‘phenomenal’ audience reaction-Emily Bashforth-Entertainment – Metro

A sequel for The Gray Man has been confirmed – just days after the first film’s release.
Starring Chris Evans, Regé-Jean Page, Ana de Armas and Ryan Gosling, the action-packed movie, sees a CIA operative (Gosling) uncover dark agency secrets.
A bounty is then put on his head and a psychopathic former colleague (Evans) sets out on a global manhunt for him.
Directed by the Avengers Infinity War and Endgame’s the Russo Brothers, the film has already gained a legion of fans after landing on Netflix.
The streaming giant has described the audience reaction to The Gray Man as ‘nothing short of phenomenal’, and talks regarding the script of the forthcoming second instalment will begin soon.
Once again proving his versatility as an actor, Barbie star Gosling will return for the sequel.

In statements issued to Metro.co.uk, Joe and Anthony Russo said: ‘The audience reaction to The Gray Man has been nothing short of phenomenal. We are so appreciative of the enthusiasm that fans across the world have had for this film.’
They added: ‘With so many amazing characters in the movie, we had always intended for the Gray Man to be part of an expanded universe, and we are thrilled that Netflix is announcing a sequel with Ryan, as well as a second script that we’re excited to talk about soon.’

Scott Stuber, head of global film at Netflix also said: ‘With The Gray Man, the Russos delivered an edge-of-your-seat spectacle that audiences around the world are loving.’
They shared how ‘excited’ they are to ‘continue to partner with them and the team at AGBO’ as they build out The Gray Man universe.
The plot for the upcoming sequel is being kept firmly under wraps for the time being, but with the immense following it now has combined with a Netflix budget, we can imagine it’ll be big.

Although, the film – based on Mark Greaney’s best-selling book series – has received mixed reviews from film critics, with the likes of Forbes branding it ‘another mediocre mockbuster’.
On the flip side, Variety had nothing but praise for the movie, calling is a ‘Bond-level summer blockbuster’.

The first movie had a budget of $200million (£166m), with a limited theatrical release.
Netflix does not report the theatrical grosses for its titles, but insiders estimated the film made around $200,000 (£166k) from about 400 theatres in its opening weekend.
The Gray Man is available in select cinemas and streaming on Netflix.
