Former Big Brother winner Dan Gheesling has finally beaten Elden Ring after five months and has now moved onto another challenge.
Being a FromSoftware release, nobody expected Elden Ring to be a walk in the park, that could easily be cleared in a few days. Those with enough dedication and time on their hands have learned how to beat it in as little as 50 minutes, but not everyone is capable of such a feat.
For one Twitch streamer, Dan Gheesling, it took five months to reach and then topple the final boss, but now he’s finally done it.
While it won’t be setting any records, it’s an accomplishment worth applauding, if only for Gheesling’s determination.
Gheesling, who rose to fame after appearing on (and winning) the American version of Big Brother in 2008, is clearly thrilled with his success, revealing that he died exactly 7,358 times.
2,999 of those were spent on Malenia alone, the most famously difficult boss fight from the game, where the most helpful strategy is to enlist aid from other players.
For comparison’s sake, HowLongToBeat says that Elden Ring’s main story takes an average of 51½ hours to complete, although that seems suspiciously quick in our experience. Still, t took Gheesling over 70 times that to get through the game.
We can’t imagine anyone would subject themselves to this unless they really enjoyed the game and that’s exactly the case with Gheesling. Even after all those deaths, he already considers Elden Ring the best game of the decade.
Without spoiling too much, Elden Ring’s final encounter is a two-phase fight, so if you die to the second phase, you have to beat the first phase again.
Gheesling clearly did a good job avoiding spoilers since he was completely unprepared for the second phase of the fight. So much so, that it killed him in one hit before he could even get near the boss, as you can see in this Twitch clip.

You would think Gheesling will want to take a break and stream something a bit more chill next time, but he’s instead eager for another ridiculously hard challenge.
He’s now started a 100% run of Cuphead (also infamous for its high difficulty), where he aims to beat every level with the highest rank possible on expert mode.
