Good Girls star Retta drops huge bombshell over season 5 axe: ‘Trust me, I’m still salty’-Rishma Dosani-Entertainment – Metro

Retta has just dropped a huge bombshell over the future of Good Girls, and we are truly shaken.

The NBC drama first hit our screens in 2018 and followed three desperate moms who robbed a supermarket after struggling to make ends meet – leading them straight into the criminal underworld.

Christina Hendricks, Mae Whitman and Manny Montana joined the Parks and Recreation actress in the cast, with Matthew Lillard, Reno Wilson and Isaiah Stannard also in the line-up.

The series was eventually canceled at the end of season four, in 2021, but Retta – who played Ruby Hill – suggested there was a lot more drama behind the scenes.

During an appearance on Live With Kelly and Ryan, she was questioned on whether we would ever get our hands on more episodes.

‘It is not [coming back],’ she admitted to boos in the studio. ‘We were very close to a fifth season.

‘But one person ruined it for all of cast and crew and so it’s not back.’

The person in question was not named, with host Kelly Ripa asking why production didn’t move ahead without them.

‘It was a little too close to when they [the creative team] would have to start and figure out story. So… no,’ Retta replied.

‘Trust me, Kelly! I’m salty!

‘I was like, “okay, maybe there was a bomb scare at some point and then a bomb actually went off and that’s why that person’s gone”.’

That would definitely have been an explosive start to a new series…

Good Girls ran for four seasons until 2021, with hopes that it would be renewed for a fifth outing.

However, bosses later confirmed that this was no longer an option.

Following the axe, there was speculation that bosses couldn’t come to an agreement with Manny – who starred as Rio – over his salary.

It was claimed that Mae, Retta and Christina offered to take a pay cut to see the show out properly, but discussions were not successful.

‘[We] very much wanted to bring Good Girls back for one more season to close out the story,’ an insider said at the time. ‘But unfortunately we were unable to make the financials work.’

Metro.co.uk has contacted reps for NBC and Manny for a comment.

Good Girls is available to stream on Netflix now.
