To the uninitiated, Love Island can seem like a never-ending holiday.
After all, its stars spend weeks at a time searching for love, in the sun, from the comfort of a beautiful Majorcan villa.
But the hit ITV2 dating show actually has loads of rules – regarding general conduct, alcohol consumption, not knowing the time, and sleeping/getting up at set times each day.
Hey, there wouldn’t be time for much drama if Luca, Gemma, Davide, Ekin-Su and co all laid in bed until lunchtime each day.
Or if someone happened to miss a recoupling at the firepit because they were off having a snooze.
So, when do contestants wake up and go to sleep?

Unfortunately, Love Islanders do have to get up in the morning – usually before 9.30am.
2016 contestant Kady McDermott revealed this information in a 2017 chat with Heat magazine.
She explained: ‘The days were very long, and the producers never let us sleep in past 9.30am [because] that wasn’t entertaining. They used to wake us up through speakers.’
ITV has addressed this before, telling The Sun that wake up calls can vary ‘depending upon what has happened the night before’ – meaning if filming’s gone on late, the cast might get a bit longer in bed.
Arabella Chi, from the 2019 series, also shared that cast often got up when producers switched the bedroom lights on.

She told the Express: ‘When the light gets switched on you’re like, ‘oh my God’, that’s why people wear those eye masks.’
What time do the Love Island cast go to bed?
In addition to the early wake up call, Islanders also have a bedtime.
However, we don’t know exactly when it is – only that previous Islanders have revealed that it’s pretty late.
Arabella also told the Express: ‘What surprised me? How late you go to bed! Well, the time you think you go to bed, but it’s definitely late.
‘You can try and work out the time but obviously we have no access to what time it is, you are able to kind of work it out.’

She also added that naps are a no-go in the villa.
However, 2021 contestant Kaz Kamwi shared in a reddit Q&A session that things were often a bit different on Saturdays, which is the only day of the week without a new episode.
She told a fan: ‘We never went to the beach or restaurants [on Saturdays]! I wish.
‘However, we did get treated to McDonald’s and used the time to wash our make up brushes and sort our clothes out… I think we went to bed early xx’
Love Island continues on ITV2 on Monday to Friday and Sundays from 9pm.
