Luca Bish’s family have said the Love Island star ‘hasn’t done anything wrong’ after he got into an argument with partner Gemma Owen over a challenge.

Tensions mounted between the pair following the Mile High-themed challenge, which saw the girls dress up as cabin crew and prep their chosen passenger for a private Mile High Club moment.

Gemma, who is the daughter of former footballer Michael Owen, licked Adam Collard, before trying to flirt up a storm with her partner, Luca. However, Luca was less than impressed with her and pushed the international dressage rider away.

Later in the episode, Gemma opened up to the girls about the incident, saying that Luca had been in a ‘mood’ all night and had ‘lost his head’.

After avoiding each other around the villa, the two tried to hash it out but Luca ended up storming off and removing his microphone.

His family have since defended his reaction amid backlash, writing on the fishmonger’s Instagram account: ‘9/10 weeks of not contact with family. It’s a crazy intense environment where emotions are heightened.

‘Learning to have disagreements and resolve them it is part of all successfull relationships. Society preaches men not to bottle things up and to open up???

‘So proud of how vulnerable and in touch with his emotions he’s been. Nothing but real.’

They added: ‘First to admit if he’s being a little “f**k. But really don’t feel he’s done anything wrong here at all.

‘Would do anything to hug him right now.’

Alongside a photo of him and Gemma somewhat awkwardly holding hands by the firepit for the shock dumping, Luca’s Instagram handler wrote: ‘Luca has always been taught not to never go to sleep on an argument. That’s true love right there.’

During the episode, Gemma made a second attempt at peace with Luca, who said ‘what guy is gonna like that?’, in reference to Gemma licking Adam.

‘Just f**k right off,’ she fumed. ‘It’s a f**king challenge.’

Sensing the excruciating tension, Luca asked Gemma: ‘Do you want to be with me?’

After a long pause, she replied: ‘Obviously,’ before walking off into the villa.

Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2.
