R Kelly’s sisters have continued to defend the disgraced singer, describing his victims as ‘bitter’, after he was convicted on sex trafficking and racketeering charges.

The I Believe I Can Fly singer was sentenced to 30 years in prison last month for masterminding an elaborate scheme to entice and sexually exploit young aspiring singers and underage children.

He was being held at a Brooklyn prison before being transported to a federal jail in Chicago, where he awaits trial on child pornography charges.

Kelly, 55, is accused of allegedly conspiring with two associates to rig a child pornography case in Cook County in 2008 and hide a number of sexual assault allegations against minors.

Jury selection for the trial is set to begin on August 15.

Three of Kelly’s sisters appeared on Good Morning Britain on Wednesday to claim the R&B singer’s conviction and sentencing was down to him being a Black man.

Cassandra Kelly said: ‘African-Americans have always been treated unfairly and so I think that has a lot to do with it as well as other factors.’

Citing the mountain of evidence against Kelly, presenter Noel Phillips then asked: ‘Can you really sit here and say that your brother has not been with underage girls?’

Lisa Kelly responded: ‘I can say he may have been with younger women, but as far as underaged girls, no and I stress girls – underage girls. Who has seen that?’

Noel then questioned if they can at least acknowledge the victims, to which Lisa stated: ‘I’m not going to acknowledge something that I don’t have the proof of. I believe that a lot of the alleged victims are bitter.’

The reporter then read out a comment from one of Kelly’s accusers, who said it was ‘sad but laughable’ that his sisters would portray him as a victim.

In June, Kelly was found guilty on all nine counts against him, including multiple counts of racketeering, with the charges relating to bribery and forced labour, by a jury in September last year.

Kelly – who denied all charges – was also found in violation of an anti-sex trafficking law known as the Mann Act.
