The Stranger Things writers have debunked theories that a ‘creepy’ Jonathan scene has been edited

The writers of Netflix phenomenon Stranger Things have claimed that no scenes have ever been edited or cut, period.

The show’s writers’ room was forced to speak out on social media after theories that a season one clip of Jonathan Byers (Charlie Heaton) taking photos of Nancy Wheeler (Natalie Dyer) undressing were tweaked to make him appear less creepy.

In the scene, Jonathan captures pictures of his crush in Steve Harrington’s (Joe Keery) bedroom while hiding in the bushes outside.

He stops when she starts taking her clothes off and instead focuses his attention on Barb (Shannon Purser), who is dressed and sitting alone by the pool.

Some fans, however, are claiming they remember Jonathan continuing to photograph Nancy, which doesn’t actually happen on the show that is currently streaming.

One person on TikTok alleged to notice the change and remarked that the Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer seemed to be trying to ‘make Jonathan look like less of a perv.’

The wild theory spread on social media like wildfire, but now the writers have put the rumours to bed.

‘PSA: no scenes from previous seasons have ever been cut or re-edited,’ a post from their Twitter account read.

‘And there never will be.’

Addressing the Jonathan scene, the account confirmed that it had not been touched.

Well, that’s that on that.

Their statement comes just weeks after the Duffers admitted that they have made tweaks to visual effects.

‘We have George Lucas’d things also that people don’t know about,’ Matt told Variety.

They also spoke about wanting to go back and fix Will’s birthday.

‘We’re thinking his new birthday, is going to be May 22, because “May” can fit in Winona [Ryder]’s mouth [in the Season 2 scene where Joyce says the date of Will’s birthday],’ they added.

‘So that would be us George Lucas-ing the situation.’

Stranger Things is available to stream on Netflix.
